The San Juan Islands consists of 173 small islands north of Seattle. There are no bridges to the Islands, therefore the only way to access them is from boat, ferry or plane. We were transported to San Juan Island by a small four seater plane piloted by our good friend, Chris, from Denver who has a family home on the island. The flying conditions were cloudy, rainy and low visibility when we arrived, but we still decided to make the trek versus taking the ferry. We almost made it to the Island with no disruptions, up until about 10 minutes left of our ride and the window blew open and I had to hold it shut the entire time. However, we did make it to the island unharmed after all, we now just have much higher blood pressure than we did before.
The island is one of the most unusual and intrigueing places I have been to. Its a tourist attraction in the summer time and also home to about 2k locals the rest of the season. I think the island is the place were big boys go to play/live/retire, since there are no bridges people either own a small plane or a boat or both to get around. Andy refers to the Island as Noahs ark, as we have seen a camel, deer, seals, sheep, alpacas, whales and many other critters. The island is surround by the puget sound, and when you look out you can view the mountains of washington state on one side and canada on the other. Next stop, a trip across the boarder to Vancouver!
